WHAT IS DIATOMEA EARTH USED FOR?

Diatomaceous earth is a silicon dioxide that is composed of very sharp microscopic algae fossils. Diatoms are marine microalgae which secrete a siliceous skeleton found in quarries. Diatomaceous earth has multiple characteristics and will be useful for many situations.

Made up of 80% silica microcrystals, it attaches to the body of insects and damages their shell. In particular, it scratches the thin film of wax that protects them. As a result, the crawlers die of dehydration. Many insects also swallow some particles of diatomaceous earth, which precipitates their decline. Its biocidal-insecticide action is thus purely mechanical. This natural insecticide is completely harmless to humans and the environment. The porous structure of diatomite gives it great absorption power (more than once its weight in water) and deodorant. Its very fine and abrasive structure also allows it to clean without scratching.
